Planica Hill to Host Ski Jumping Finals

Slovenia's Planica hill, the biggest ski-jumping hill in the world, will host the finals of the ski jumping World Cup on Mar. 19 to 22, organizers said on Wednesday.

Planica is an alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia, extending south from the border town Rateče, not far from another well known ski resort, Kranjska

Organizers received a final nod from the International Ski Federation (FIS) to host the final World Cup meet of the season at Planica in northwestern Slovenia, the Slovenian news agency STA reported.

According to a statement by the Slovenian Ski Association, FIS representative Sepp Gratzer examined the hill and all elements related to the event, establishing that there was enough snow and that all was running according to plans.

The best jumpers will compete in individual and team events. This-year's meet at Planica will also mark the 40th anniversary of ski-flying.

The Planica hill has traditionally been home to the longest ski-jumps in history. The world record of 239 meters was set there in 2005 by Norway's Bjoern Einar Romoeren.
